For centuries the Guarani used stevia as a sweetener and healing plant, Stevia rebaudiana is a small shrub with sweeteners, stevioside-glucoside, established in the triangle of countries Paraguay, Brazil and Argentina.
Stevia is consumed fresh or in tea acts as a regulator of the level of blood sugar in almost all patients with type II and a high percentage of type I, as its medicinal effect works by stimulating the activity of the pancreas. It also regulates the voltage and is able to remove the anxiety about food.
In countries like USA, Japan, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, China, India, Australia and Thailand, among others, stevia is used heavily to great success and without any contraindications.
Medicinal use of Stevia
According to numerous studies and from experience with hundreds of diabetics that are consumed here in Catalonia and in other areas of Spain, we can state clearly that the plant regulates blood sugar, reduce blood pressure, regulates the digestive system in general, acts favorably in many people who suffer from anxiety, reduce fat in obese people and is an antioxidant and diuretic. Its antibacterial and antifungal make it suitable for decay, chewing fresh leaves.
The dose used by most people who have observed beneficial effects are:
- In cool: about 4 young leaves taken before or during breakfast and 4 leaves before or during dinner.
- Dry plant: when we do not have a constant fresh leaves can make an infusion of dried leaves. To take as a tea plant will use a rasa dessert teaspoon (2 grams) per infusion, twice a day: one morning to take regular day and another shot at the end of regular day to night, using a teaspoon dessert each time.
For convenience you can make an infusion once a day and keep in the fridge in closed glass jar leftover infusion for the next shot. For example, if we want to make one liter, add a heaping tablespoon boiling water, put out the fire, shake gently, let stand about 10 minutes and passed through a sieve. The infusion should be stored in a refrigerator since we have a liter for two days. We will take a glass fasting in the morning and another before dinner or bedtime.
Comments: People with diabetes should be checking blood sugar levels to adjust medication to levels which will take as stevia. Similarly, people prone to low blood pressure and who are taking antihypertensive medication should take into account the possible effects of this plant.
